Focusing on Life :: Abstract View

My take on Sally's prompt this week for Focusing on Life is using a large painting that my now teenager painted in Kindergarten. She was asked to paint someone in her life for a school project, so she painted me.

I love the large green eyes (yes my eyes are green). And lips that seem to consume my face. Or perhaps the 'jug' ear off to one side. I call it her Picasso phase: complete with side view of the nose.

But I have to say my favorite part is me wearing what appears to be an evening dress with pearls. I don't 'do' dresses, at least not much. So why she painted me this way is fascinating!

Sally said to focus on the abstract; a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Check. This is one of my favorite pictures in the house. It makes me smile and giggle all at the same time. I love that about this painting.

  1. Very well painted for kindergarten -- your daughter has talent! I love the watercolor background! I have special drawings by my kids that I've kept all these years -- they are so special.

  2. For Kindergarten, this is superb! Wow! Does she currently pursue art? I love all the things you pointed out and also the curve in your neck. It looks like you can make it longer or reign it in at will. It is easy to see why this was a keeper!

  3. Oh Cynthia, that is wonderful and for a kindergartener, she did an amazing job. I had one of my hubby and me on the couch, that my 4 year old stick figured one night, but we won't go into any more details!

  5. Hee hee it's adorable! I think kids' drawings somehow capture the "essence" of the subject... perhaps what they view as most important or somehow representative... your daughter caught all the beautiful, princessy aspects of you :)

  7. This is wonderful! It's gorgeous! I almost posted one my son did, too - it hangs in my 'studio' and it's all about abstract, but the glass got in the way of the photograh! :-) I love that you have pearls on in this portrait!!

  13. The first thing I noticed about the drawing, besides its cuteness, is that you are wearing a necklace. I like the colorful background!

  14. Kids are very cool artists, they "get" abstraction in a way that we don't!

  24. How adorable and wonderful is that??! Her use of color is wonderful. That flower (?) off to the left of you is so beautiful with the black line. Has she kept up her drawing, because I think she's got talent!
