UFOs :: Completing Unfinished Objects

Hello, my name is Cynthia, and I am a bead-aholic. I get distracted like a child in a candy store when I'm standing in front of a table of beads. My mind races with possibilities, but many times fails to complete the thought.

We all like to joke about UFOs (UnFinished Objects) lying around our bead tables. I have a hopeless, and chronic issue with them. I start many projects, but get distracted somewhere along the way.

I'm not sure what causes it. Perhaps it comes from the rush I get when a pattern appears in my head and I hurry to get it worked out through the beads. And once I see the beads come together I get distracted by yet another shinny objects on the bead table.

Sometimes it is a technique I'm practicing and I work it over and over in my hands. It is like when I was a child and was learning the piano. I would work the same couple of bars in the music over and over again until my family would beg me to move on because they just couldn't listen to it any more. It could also be because the piano sat in the middle of the living room not far from the television. Yea, on second thought it could have been that.

Lately I've been obsessed with cabochons. Tiny ones, misshaped ones, shields .... anything that can be glued and beaded around seems to be in progress and lying on my bead table. My kids like to joke with me that I think almost anything can be beaded. Perhaps. I do love a challenge. So when Karen put out a call to start a support group for UFOs, my beady friends assembled like moths to a flame. First up for me is this green glass cab that I have had sitting around for roughly 3 years. Not as old as some UFOs, but certainly time to finish. Part of my mission with completing these UFOs is to also try to use beads within my existing stash (aka no buying of new beads .... OMG did I just say that?). This necklace uses green aventurine that I've had much, much longer than 3 years.

I get like that when I'm at market browsing thousands of fabric samples...:)
Gorgeous statement necklace!

I had a big chunky silver bracelet once that had green aventurine in it, back in the days when I wore more jewelry than I do today. It's a beautiful stone.

I have quite a few UFOs lying around too. Last year I spent about a month finishing them up, but I still have one in a tupperware that I've had since before I even moved back from Washington, which was almost 6 years ago. I know what I want it to look like but I can't figure out HOW to do it.

Beautifully done. These shades are green are lovely together. UFOs seem to be quite common no matter what the craft is. You are not alone. :) Wishing you lots of luck restraining from acquiring more beads and such in the meantime!

I do believe almost anything can be beaded :-)

Bravo for completing your first UFO. The glass cabs you have are very nice, and if your first finished piece is any indication you will be wildly successful at turning them all into things of scrumptious beauty!

Please tell me it wasn't that hard. I have yet to even get started and pick out my first project.

Lovely necklace! I don't have many UFOs because I have to finish what I start. I'm weird that way but then again, I don't start anything that I know I can't finish! :) I need to do a leather type of bracelet for a friend and I'm terrified to start it so I haven't done it for going on four months now. I really should try even if I fail. *gasp*

So pretty! And I was going to sign up for Karen's UFO challenge to kick me out of the procrastination mode but (irony alert!) I dithered and missed the deadline. Ah well, I can enjoy the pretties that my organized friends are finishing off!

Hahaha - you really made me laugh. Think we need to start a support: BA (Beaders Anonymous)! I love cabochons too and you have just motivated me to pull one out of my stash. Love your aventurine cab and design.

You make me laugh Cynthia! You are adorable! The aventurine necklace you finished is gorgeous, even if it did take you a few years! LOL! Big Hugs!

You are among people who understand the UFOs and how they happen.

Glad to see I am not alone in the world of UFO's! I have so many projects started; beads staring at me; pendants looking for a new home! Just when I am ready to start something - I get distracted with another project! well at least I know I have many UFO's in my corner!

My mom used to have a drawer labeled "unlikely to be finished projects!" I think she puled something out of it for her trip last week because she was working on a knitting project she apparently last worked on right after our wedding. Our third anniversary is this year!
