Focusing on Life :: Take a Walk

For me, there is nothing like a walk on the beach. I'm not your typical beachcomber. When is hot and sticky, I'm not going to be that person sitting in a beach chair. But when the wind is blowing sideways, I'll throw on a sweater and head for the beach. I love the smell of the saltwater and the fresh air whipping around my ears.

So when Sally asked us to talk a walk for inspiration this week, I knew I'd just head down to the beach; rain or shine. As you can see, there's a storm brewing. But made no difference to me.

I enjoyed watching this little boy and his grandfather. The grandfather very close behind to keep an eye on his little explorer. The boy so wanted his feet in the water. And each time the tide came up around his shoes, he giggled with an ear-to-ear grin. We should all be that carefree and able to laugh with life's simple pleasures.

My youngest absolutely loves to collect shells. She picked up as many as her hands could hold, and then recruited her sister to help out. When we got home I asked where she put all her new shells and with a proud smile she said she had already washed them and put them in her shell box. I of course asked the obvious question, "did you dry them?" The look on her face told me she didn't. Sigh.

  1. LOL - poor girl, you crushed her proud moment! Fabulous pictures and great moments... I wish I had a beach to comb close-by (well, I have, the lake shore... no shells, though :))

  2. Seems like the theme so far includes water... wish my beach had waves.. not intertidal shluck!

  3. Beautiful shots. Have you ever used sea shells in jewelry? I wonder if they could be wire wrapped...

  9. Hi Cynthia,
I am not a big fan of the beach in the summer, but I do like to walk along the beach any time of the year.

  10. It seems there are many of us drawn to the water! It was my first thought from Sally's prompt, as it was yours.

  11. I LOVE the beach in all kinds of weather except a really hot day! Lucky you to be so close on a daily basis. That would be a dream come true! My 4 year old granddaughter collects shells (in Washington state)and labels them in bags according to location. I send her small shells from the Mediterranean - after I wash and dry them, lol!

I must say, I've been known to wash the shells but forget to dry them myself.

  16. I am with you. I love the beach! I wish I lived closer to one. I would be on it all the time. Especially when the weather is stormy! And my BD is in March too! Pisces?

  17. I could almost hear the ocean in your photos. I love the little boy and grandpa too. Something about the beach - any beach - tells me to sit down, breathe and relax.

  20. Wonderful photos. I'm glad grandfather and grandkids get to play together.

I'm not a water person, but I do like dipping my toes at the edge of a lovely beach or a cool creek.

  21. Now I grew up on a beach (Long Beach Island, NJ) and love living on the water but I cannot stand the actual beach. I hate sand. Silly, that I know but I just want to watch the water not participate in the water.

  22. Oh such lovely treasures! I too am one to enjoy the combing more than sunning. Love the beach!

  23. Oh, love the stormy pic of the ocean! I miss being able to go to the beach and walk along the sand as the water comes up to kiss your feet. Love the pic of the little boy and his grandfather too! You put a smile on my face at the end about your daughter not drying the shells, that is me too. You mean I have to dry them?????

  25. It looks awesome out there before a storm! The ocean must have sounded so powerful. We can learn so much by watching what makes a child happy. He was probably having the time of his life!

  27. That picture of the kid and his grandfather is beautiful!

I am not such a sea lover I prefer to stay out of the water(ships, boats, pools, kayaks, swimming and such) But I can certainly walk along the shore and get my feet wet.

  29. Beautiful photos! I love the shells - those always thrill me, too! And yes, we should all be as happy w/the little things in life as that little boy,...I think sometimes we just forget how to 'be free' in those moments and enjoy what's right in front of us!

  30. I have to laugh at your little one. But, I'll admit that she's better than me as I don't often wash my shells immediately!
I'm a beach goer as well. We go when it's hot, cold, stormy, whenever. We just have a need to be near, in, or on the water.
Thank you for sharing your experience!
