Happy Birthday Therese!

Today we're celebrating Therese's Birthday (of Therese's Treasures), and she does it in such a unique way. She sends out gifts to all of us! How nice is that? This year Therese decided to apprentice with a local glass artist. As her first lesson she learned fusing glass, and she created a series of cabs, which is what she has shared with us!  She told us that her birthday present was to see what we make with her cabs.

In this first lesson she learned how to cut glass, score and break it, then the fun begins with fusing shapes and 'sandwiching' pieces of glass. You can see Therese (top left) shaping the glass in the picture I grabbed from her blog, along with her collection of cabs she made! You can read more about her process here

The cab Therese sent me is on the lower right of the picture. It is really a beautiful piece! I am pretty new to working with cabs, in fact this is now my second bead bezel piece, so I kept it simple to let the cab really take center stage. Then I did some simple stringing for the rest of the bracelet, again because I did want to fight with the dominant colors of the cab. I added just a little bit of gold beading to pull out the gold in the glass. The end result kinda reminds me of a modern piece of art ... almost Kandinsky!  Happy Birthday Therese, and thanks for hosting a great birthday blog hop! Here are all the other birthday hoppers: AliciaAmyBobbieChristineCynthia (that's me), KristenLolaMarlaMaryanneShirleyTherese and Crystie

  1. You sure did let the cab take center stage!! It is a beauty. You simple approach really is spectacular - highlighting both your talent and Therese's talent! What a great idea to use this for a bracelet centerpiece.

  2. You scored a great cab and then ran with it. I love the way you interwove a few strands of gold. The bracelet is dramatic and bold, definitely a piece to be noticed!

  3. I love this bracelet. The gold woven into the black is fantastic and it picks up some of the color from Therese's cab but still allows it to be the star!! Fantastic!

  5. Cynthia, you have the best ideas! I just can't tell you how much I love this bracelet! Your color choices are perfect, and the design really lets the focal take center stage.

  6. What a knockout! This is beautiful and substantial. You gave the cab enough support without taking anything away from the cab itself. Your beading around the cab is gorgeous and I LOVE the multistrand bracelet. That is proving to be a good look for your jewelry! Therese's work is just so cool! I love those pink dots in your cab :-)

  9. It's so hard for me to believe that this is only your second beaded bezel -- it's a perfect frame to let the striking colors of the cab shine. And I love the multi-strands, which balance the heft of the cab without looking at all heavy. Looks like Kandinsky? He'd be so lucky!

  10. OMG Cynthia this is gorgeous! Your creative mind always blows me away! I love how you used matte seed beads so that your cab shines. Your cab is the very first one I made and I really love how it turned out, by me and especially by you. Thank you so much for celebrating my birthday with me and I hope that you will celebrate many more to come with me.
    Much love,
    Therese

  11. I admit I toyed with the idea of a bracelet, but it wouldn't have been as perfect as yours! I love what you did with the cab, how you (and everybody else was on the same page) let Therese's cab shine and just showcased it elegantly with matching colours. Stunning! And so you :)

  14. You did Therese's cab such justice! It is a beauty! I took a class at the local art center in fused glass a few years back. It was a really cool experience! My pieces are still sitting a drawer waiting for me to play with them.

  15. SO PRETTY! I think the black was the perfect accent for this since it really lets all the colors in the cab shine. You did an awesome job with this!
