The last few winters have been down right brutal. One snow storm after another, and just when you think it won't snow again .... another storm hits in early April.
I don't know if our little rodent friend Punxsutawney Phil was right, but I'm sure enjoying the warmer weather and early spring flowers. My crocus are in, and the snow drops are about to bloom. I love both of these not only because they are pretty, but it is the promise of putting those snow shovels away for another year.
My recent trip down to Florida kick-started my drought in beading. And with the flowers showing up in the yard, I was feeling like pulling out the beads even when I returned home to Connecticut. So I ordered a few things on Etsy including some vintage Czech glass buttons with dragonflies. I cut the shank off the back to make a perfect cabochon to bead around. I love the vintage mint green in the one. I think I'm going to put these on a simple chain so I don't over complicate the pattern. Thanks Phil for getting me going again, and fingers crossed we've seen the last of this winter!
Those buttons are so beautiful. This has been the best winter. My acorn theory panned out. Past few years there wasn't an acorn to be seen in my yard despite having oaks. We had horrible winters. This past fall my yard was chock full of them. So many going to waste. I stated to anyone that'd listen, that the animals know they don't have to hoard this year so we should have a decent winter.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the mint button with dragonfly! Can you believe we're still having subzero temperatures and it looks like they are here to stay...
ReplyDeleteYou know how much I love butterflies and these are beautiful examples; love the setting!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful pieces! I'm so glad the sun worked its magic on you and to hear that you have flowers in your yard. Hope your birthday was awesome, too!
ReplyDeleteLove the dragonfly buttons. I have a couple hoarded away somewhere. The beading is perfect, simple and elegant. May the sun shine, and shine, and shine!
ReplyDeletefingers crossed! your crocus are beautiful and so are the dragonflies buttons :)
ReplyDeleteYeh!! Love seeing your beautiful creations! We hardly had no snow this year! It kind of scares us, because they are calling for a dry hot summer! Not good! I hope they are wrong about that! We are cooling down again and suppose to be getting some snow next week. Actually, I am happy about that! Sorry! But, I do hope Spring is early for you! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh - love the dragonflies. Especially the blue one, it just pops!! Your flowers are pretty as well and I'm excited that we had a mild winter here in central Illinois, too - especially since it was my first one back here in 3 decades! Looking forward to the spring flowers popping up here!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope Ol' Phil was right...I'm ready for Spring!
ReplyDeleteWe had a few really nice days this last week, but now it's going to get cold again. At least everything is starting to turn green :)
Love your mint green piece. I think a simple chain would be great as well.
I love how that mint POPs with the antique gold in the beads and dragonfly! Very much a keepsake necklace. And the simple chain for them is perfect. You added just enough beads to these beauties. Were the shanks resin or metal?
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring, my friend!
Those buttons are amazing, looking like exquisite jewelry. I like the gold one! As for the winter, ours was crazy - so warm, we hardly had anu snow at all in Uzbekistan this time. It was a great disappointment!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to jump into spring and a new beading season, Cynthia. These are beautiful and I love their simplicity! I've done the cutting-off-the-shank-trick, too. It's perfect for all the beautiful buttons that are available :) Happy spring to you...us northerners are certainly ready for it!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteWhere I live in Florida, dragonflies are everywhere! The most beautiful pair was dancing around me on the trail yesterday.
ooo...lovely dragonflies! I love the mint green one, love it!
ReplyDeleteWe are definitely having an early spring this year! A couple years ago it snowed in April. It WAS pretty on the tulips, but still...
