I see a lot of tassel necklaces and I've been wanting to design with that in mind. So when I came across a brown leather tassel at a near by bead shop I heard it calling to me.
But I have been trying to use up my stash since I appear to have enough beads already to open my own shop. Shhhhh ... please don't tell my husband I said that. He'll put another ban on my bead shopping!
Ok, so brown. I wanted the beads to be the supporting cast, not over power the tassel as the focal. So I grabbed cream colored carnelian. Yes, those are carnelian. It isn't what you normally think of with its deep orange color, but if you look at the natural stone you'll see that indeed there are parts of it that are a cream color.
Next I went hunting for brass beads in my stash. I guess I don't have a lot of those, but I did manage to find a set of Asian bar beads. I included small brass beads from India, which were the last of my stash on those. A bit of leather for the back strap and there you have it. A long tassel necklace that will look great with sandals and a flowing top. Who else is ready for summer?
That came out awesome!!!! And I know what you mean about the bead stash and being able to open your own shop. My friend Karen & I were just talking about this same issue!!!!ReplyDelete
Fantastic use of your bead stash! The tassels are so on trend right now. I love those brass bar beads you have!ReplyDelete
It's beautiful and classy. I love tassels, too, and brown leather with cream colored beads ... great job!ReplyDelete
Tassels are so popular right now. What a fun design!ReplyDelete
I want to see it on your beautiful model :-) In my mind I can also see you wearing that standing on the beach at sunset letting the surf slowly reach your feet. Lovely!ReplyDelete
That is just beautiful! I love the leather backstrap - too! I did not know that Carnelian could be cream colored - I always learn SOMETHING when I visit your blog! :)ReplyDelete
Just gorgeous! The beads you chose were a perfect accent to the tassel. BTW, if you are ever up for making a beaded tassel, Jill Wiseman has a great tutorial on YouTube. Also, I am right with you on the bead stash. It's a good thing most of them are small!ReplyDelete
I love your necklace. The tassel is much more attractive than a lot of the ones I've seen. The carnelian beads are very interesting. I've never seen that color.ReplyDelete
I love the boho design of this necklace :)ReplyDelete
Gorgeous!! Yes, I am ready for summer! I just have to get over this stupid flew! Are most of your pieces on Etsy, or between Etsy and Amazon??ReplyDelete
Oh wow, that turned out beautiful! Sounds like my fabric stash is like your bead stash!ReplyDelete
Leather is always nice in jewelry :)ReplyDelete
Pretty! I saw a tassel necklace this weekend and thought about how I should maybe make one...but then I remembered that I always wear one of the same two necklaces (on the rare occasions when I wear any at all) and decided maybe it wasn't the project for right now.ReplyDelete
It looks great! So pretty.ReplyDelete
I've never seen cream carnelian. It's lovely!ReplyDelete
Ms. Ethnic Boho, you have done it again ~ a gorgeous, textured, wearable necklace!!! Lovely all around :-)ReplyDelete

Great combination of textures in this piece, Cynthia! I'm a sucker for tassels...love the look and the movement they bring to a necklace :) Happy creating to you.ReplyDelete
Tassels are HUGE right now aren't they? I'm seeing them everywhere. I think your rendition is so much better than most of the ones I've spotted. That carnelian is dreamy and the brass works beautifully!ReplyDelete
